Cloud Peak Wilderness Trip, July, 2024, pt. 1: Wyoming, Weather and Worries
It’s pretty flat in Wyoming, but we’ve managed to set up camp at 12,000 feet nestled in the heart of the Cloud Peak Wilderness. I’m laying in my tent recovering from the final 1,000 feet of rock we just clamored over to get here. My brothers and I have spent the last 2 and a half days making it to this spot, by way of two intra-state road trips, one small town bed and breakfast, and a full day of hiking and fishing before a serious rock scramble. Before we had ever set foot out of our doorstep, this trip has been in the making for far longer. Years ago, my brother, Harlan, had sleuthed this location, and in classic fashion would never tell me exactly where it was. It was February, during our monthly brothers night dinner that Harlan finally divulged the location over a Korean hotpot meal. And six months later we had finally made it.
